Red Hill weekly food distribution by Apex Club of Bukit Timah

On November 14, 2020, volunteer Executive Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution Toh Soon Huat JP, and colleagues from Sian Chay’s headquarters were invited to participate in the Red Hill weekly food distribution by Apex Club of Bukit Timah. As volunteers, they distribute food ration bags to low-income families in HDB rental flats. Sian Chay Medical Institution also donated $10,000 to the purchase of the food ration. The money would benefit 1124 families, most of them elderly living alone and low-income families.
In addition, Sian Chay Medical Institution will donate another $10,000 to buy medical supplies and household items such as water bottles and electric fans.
Member of Parliament of Ang Mo Kio GRC Ng Ling Ling, Apex Club Lifer Philip Tan, PJG, JP, BBM (L), BBM, PBM and his wife, and Mr. Desmond Chin participated in the activity. Thanks to Mr Tan for his kindness and invitation, so that more people have the opportunity to participate in this warm and meaningful activity.
According to the person in charge of Apex Club food distribution project, the project started in 1988. The food ration activity is fixed every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to distribute to low-income residents in Redhill Close Blocks 89 and 90. The food ration bag is usually worth about $8, and today’s food ration bag is worth about $15. The bags containing grapes, eggs, dragon fruit, pear, bread, eggplant, tomatoes, green vegetables, can sardine, cereal etc. were distributed to 143 families.
Chairman Toh Soon Huat, JP said: “Charity is a form of true love. It is sincere, compassionate, grateful and bright. It is a connotation, a touching moment, a learning experience, and a self-cultivation. It enriches life with power and embodies the value of life. When others encounter difficulties, we need to invoke our compassion, brightness and responsibility – contribute money and effort where we can. Serve the country and the people by working together to tide over the difficulties.”
