83rd Installation Ceremony – Mr. Ng Chee Meng

01 Jul 2018

Message from Guest-of-Honour

Mr. Ng Chee Meng

Minister, Prime Minister’s Office

Established in 1901, true to your name of “善济” whereby “” means benevolence, Sian Chay Medical Institution has been providing free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation with subsidised medication and treatment to the community regardless of race, religion or nationality for over a century, serving over a million patient visits.

Under the leadership of Mr Toh Soon Huat who took over the chairmanship since 2008, Sian Chay has grown from a single clinic into a network with 15 branches serving 1,200 patient visits daily; and supports 5 wellness centres. Today, a high proportion of the patients visiting Sian Chay are non-Chinese residents. Sian Chay’s advocacy of the five core values of “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing” in the four official languages, and the beliefs of ‘Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People’ that foster racial harmony are widely accepted by people from all walks of life.

Over the past four years (2014-2017), Sian Chay Medical Institution has served nearly 1 million patient visits and dispensed more than 1.8 million dosages of prescription. In the next five years (2018-2022), Sian Chay Medical Institution expects to serve 2.5 million patient visits and 4.8 million dosages of prescription. The annual operating budget is expected to reach $6 million.

Our pioneer generation’s hard work and contributions transformed Singapore to who we are today. Hence when they seek treatment at Sian Chay Medical Institution, they enjoy full waiver of medical charges. This is made possible with thanks to the Lee Foundation for the generous donation of $3 million to the Pioneer Generation Medical Fund over the past three years. The fund benefitted 300,000 pioneer generation patients in 2016 and 2017.

At the same time, Sian Chay also engages the younger generation in your charity work so that they understand the power of giving and positive energy, and they could give back to the society. All these efforts and achievements are made possible only with the strong support from the management of Sian Chay as well as your community of supporters and volunteers.

The appointment of the Board of Directors for the 83rd term (2018-2021) also marks a new milestone in Sian Chay’s drive towards achieving greater service excellence and providing service beyond Traditional Chinese Medicine. I extend my congratulations to Chairman Mr Toh Soon Huat and fellow directors for being elected into the board for the next three years.

I would also like to commend the Honourable Chairmen, Honorary Directors, Honorary Chairmen as well as the Charity and Benevolent Ambassadors for your support to Sian Chay Medical Institution. I hope that you will continue to support and serve Sian Chay. Most importantly, I want to say a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have tirelessly served and contributed to Sian Chay all these years.

Best Wishes to all!
