On 28th July at 10.30am, the solo art exhibition of Singapore’s national heritage artist Lim Tze Peng, hosted by the real estate group Fission Group, was held at Artspace@Helutrans. The President of Singapore, Mdm Halimah Yacob, Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution, officiated at the opening ceremony of the art exhibition. The solo art exhibition raised a total of S$500,000, of which S$250,000 donated to the President’s Challenge, and the remaining half $250,000 was donated to Sian Chay Medical Institution.
The 97 years old Mr. Lim Tze Peng is a renowned artist in Singapore. Over the years, he kept honing his own painting techniques as well as assimilating the unique strengths from other artists. His persistent endeavour has brought him amazing artistic achievements in oil and ink painting, and led him to an unprecedented path of art.
At the meantime, Mr. Lim Tze Peng is also a teacher who has devoted himself to education for 32 years. In his long teaching career, he kept passing on his innovative knowledge and skills to his students and help the disciples take off from the grounding. In 2003 he was conferred the Singapore Cultural Medallion Award, the highest honour in arts, by the Singapore government.
Mr. Lim Tze Peng’s efforts have attracted the support from Mr. and Mrs Melvin Poh Boon Kher from Fission Group. Mr. Poh said in his opening address that, “Lim Tze Peng is among the first generation of Singaporean born painters and his painting works are quite representative. On the one hand, organizing this event is to honour the personality of Mr. Lim Tze Peng as well as his contribution for Singapore society. On the other hand, it is also to raise funds to support the President’s Challenge and Sian Chay Medical Institution.” Mr. Poh has been collecting Lim Tze Peng’s paintings since 2013 and the number of collections has exceeded 100 pieces. 90 percent of the artworks in this exhibition are from Mr. Melvin Poh’s collections.
In October 2018, Mr. Lim Tze Peng will donate ten exquisite meticulous paintings for future Sian Chay’s art exhibitions and other large-scale events for charity auction.
Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, said during the interview, “I am especially grateful to Melvin Poh and his wife from Fission Group for their generous support. Thanks to Mr. Lim Tze Peng for painting the art of love. Gratitude to all the benevolent people for their support. At present, Sian Chay Medical Institution has 15 branches throughout the island to provide TCM consultation services to residents, serving up to 1,200 patients daily. The annual operating budget is about $6 million. Thanks to the support from the benevolent people, Sian Chay is able to sustain its development and bring hope to more needy people. We wish more kind-hearted people will join us and bring hope to even more people who need help.”
