11 Sep 2017

On 11th September 2017, Sian Chay Medical Institution organised the “Care and Share” goodie bag distribution at 610 Geylang HQ. Mr. Chua Swee Wah, Secretary and Dato’ Seri Jackson Teo Ngiang Heng, Treasurer, attended the activity. Yu Feng Ling Shan Temple , while holding Ulambana prayer, did not forget to care for the disadvantaged groups in society, and sharing them with grocery items. At the same time, the temple was touched by the services rendered by Sian Chay, regardless of race, religion and nationality by continuously providing free Chinese Traditional Medicine consultation and low cost treatment for the needy for over a century. It donated 36 goodie bags, each worth $13.80, to share with the needy patients. Among which, 7 less mobile patients were unable to collect their goodie bags. Sian Chay specially delivered to them the goodie bags. Special thanks for the generous donation by Yu Feng Ling Shan Temple.

At 10 am, both directors, Mr. Chua Swee Wah and Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, begun to distribute goodie bags to 36 patients from Geylang branches who were granted waiver of medical charges. They were from low-income families, financially needy and elderly residents, single seniors, or unemployed single person or couples with a sick family member. They got their medical charges waived through recommendation by physicians at Geylang branch or self applications by themselves. At present, a total of 93 patients in all branches were approved for this scheme in 2017.

In order to express gratitude to Sian Chay, an old lady on wheelchair, who is one of the goodie bag recipients, came to collect the goodie bag from Mr. Teo. Her son, who has partial mobility, was with her. We learnt from her brave and strong attitude towards life. The goodie bag would be of help to her livelihood. We felt appreciative to what we possessed and felt that we show concern for the needy and vulnerable groups.

Through this activity, Sian Chay rendered its care to the patients, and promoted its 5 core cultures, which were Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing. By organizing charity activities, Sian Chay is practicing its social responsibility advocated by Chairman Toh Soon Huat that , “From the Society, For the Society”. To take care of the vulnerable groups, with effort or money. Wishing everyone to work together to contribute to charity cause within one’s own means. Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. It’s Sian Chay’s belief , “Forward with the Nation and Bonding with the People”. This can make a better society. This is not only the commitment of Sian Chay, but also inescapable responsibility and obligation of each Singaporean. Moving forward and working together for a better Singapore.
