2018 Lunar New Year Hongbao/Goodie Bag for the Elderly
On 3rd and 4th February, 2,000 Lunar New Year goodie bags were distributed to Sengkang South residents by Sengkang South Grassroots Organizations, Sengkang South Philanthropists Group and Sian Chay Medical Institution. Mr. Gan Thiam Poh, MP of Ang Mo Kio GRC, Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, Director of Sian Chay, together with the community leaders, attended the “2018 Lunar New Year Goodie Bag presentation ceremony”.
The 2018 Lunar New Year goodie bag presentation ceremony was organised in conjunction with the Lunar New Year celebration for the low-income families and elderly in the community with a New Year greeting and a warm blessing for the residents. For two days in February 3rd and 4th, Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, Chairman of Artistes & Performers’ Association of Singapore, also led the performers to sing and dance at the ceremony. The residents at the event were attracted by the activities. Some aunties also danced together with the performers.
Mr. Toh Soon Huat later shared excitedly on his WeChat moments, “I was deeply touched, with gratitude, sentiment and thankfulness. Over a period of two days 2,000 hongbaos, 2,000 New Year goodie bags , 2,000 pairs of mandarin oranges and 2,000 loving lunch boxes were distributed with sincere blessing to every elderly; and greetings to all residents blessing them a happy new year and good health. Those residents who received hongbaos and goodie bags were very pleased and touched. Many of them were grateful with tears, feeling cared and concerned. Everyone was happy. This event deeply enhanced the New Year mood of 2,000 low-income families. Counting 5 members in a family on average, it means that we helped 10,000 people to begin a happy new year.” “Special thanks to MP Gan Thiam Poh who attended the ceremony to celebrate together the Lunar New Year with the residents .
