Charity Bowling Tournament
On 9th November 2019, Kowloon Club Youth Group successfully organised a charity bowling tournament at SAFRA Mount Faber Superbowl and raised $30,000 for Sian Chay Medical Institution.
The tournament was officiated by Guest of Honour Mr. Melvin Yong, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC. The Kowloon Club presented the donation cheque to Sian Chay Director Jackson Teo PBM , witnessed by Mr Melvin Yong, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC.
Founded as a non-profit organization in 1990, Kowloon Club membership comprises mainly new immigrants from Hong Kong, With the aim of helping new immigrants to better integrate into local community, Kowloon Club has been advocating the concepts of ethnic integration and poverty alleviation over the years, keen on charitable activities, practicing gratitude, and giving back to society. Kowloon Club Youth Group was established in 2017. On one hand, the Youth Group is prepared to groom young members to be successors. On the other hand, it is also committed to improving the vitality of the Club and creating a platform for the young generation to inherit and promote traditional culture.
Kowloon Club currently has more than 1,500 member families. The Club has been engaged in integrating member families into local communities and give back to society by organizing year-round charity, cultural entertainment and educational activities. Kowloon Club is willing to become a small umbrella in the charity sector to shelter the needy people from wind and rain.
Last year, similarly Kowloon Club Youth Group also raised $30,000 for Sian Chay. The Guest of Honour, Ms. Sun Xueling, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC then , said, “I am very happy to participate in this meaningful event and to see the young faces. I encourage young people to participate in social charity activities, do more good deeds, and contribute to society. With the contribute on from everyone, society be harmonious and beautiful.”
Mr. Philip Chan, President of the Kowloon Club, said: “Thank you very much for taking the time to attend the event. We hope that we can do our best to motivate more people to participate in charitable activities and contribute to society.”
It is more blessed to give than to receive. Giving back to society and supporting charity is the aim of Kowloon Club. Mr Anthony Chan, Director of Kowloon Club Youth Group, said, “The Youth Group is honoured to organize this meaningful event and help those the needy in society.”
Mr. Toh Soon Huat JP, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, said, “Every $10 donation in Sian Chay can benefit a patient from a low-income family to enjoy free consultation and medication at Sian Chay. We are not just helping 30,000 people, but 30,000 families. If any family member falls sick, the mood of the whole family will be affected. Let us assist Sian Chay to help the patients get relieved from suffering and pain, as well as creating a healthy and happy family and a harmonious society.”
Under the leadership of Chairman Toh Soon Huat, Sian Chay Medical Institution has always adhered to the five core values: “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessings”, in support of nation building and fostering a harmonious society. Sian Chay actively promotes its beliefs that “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours”, and that “Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People”. Sian Chay strongly supports charity causes by participating in activities organized by community organisations, civic group and community centres to give back to society.
