Filial Piety Musical Concert: Brilliant Singapore’s Sunset
On 10th June, the “Filial Piety and Respect for Elders Musical Concert”, hosted by Sian Chay Medical Institution and sponsored by the family of ISP was held at Resort World Sentosa Theatre. The Guest of Honour, Ms Sun Sue Lin, Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development, Directors of Sian Chay together with over 1,020 other guests attended the event. The ” Filial Piety and Respect for Elders Musical Concert ” was held to promote the culture of filial piety and respect for the elders and awareness of health.
In her speech, Ms Sun Sue Lin said, UN “The “World Population Ageing Report 2017” shows that Singapore’s total population in 2017 was 5.71 million people, of whom 855,000 were under 15 years of age and 886,000 were above the age of 64. That is to say, the population above 65 years old is almost the same as the population under the age of 15.
However, 12 years later, by 2030, the local elderly population will reach 1.8 million people, more than double the young population.
Singapore is heading to an ageing society, which is a challenge for the whole society. In addition to the government’s policies, the ageing population also requires the support of the community, medical institutions, and charitable organizations.
I was informed that Sian Chay Medical Institution has 15 branches providing free TCM consultations and treatments for the public. Taking care of the elderly and showing the respect can reflect the humanity and empathy of a society.
We are very pleased to see medical centres and charitable organizations such as Sian Chay Medical Institution contributing to the community welfare in Singapore.
I believe that with the government’s policies, community collaboration, and support from medical institutions and charitable organizations, Singapore will be able to confidently meet the trend of ageing; and the elderly in Singapore will surely receive more care and attention. Chairman Toh Soon Huat often shared that, “Sian Chay Medical Institution is a charity organization that provides free TCM consultation to the general public. (The Pioneer Generation holding a PG card can enjoy full waiver for consultation and treatment. Other needy patients can also apply for waiver of medical fees.) Currently, 15 branches are serving about 1200 patient visits daily. Helping one person means helping one family and our souls will feel joyous and peaceful. Because the whole family’s mood will be affected if any of the family members gets ill, and our mission is to help patients remove of bitterness and gain happiness, relieve the pain of sickness, and foster healthy, happy families and a harmonious society.
Trust, action, attitude, conduct form the integrity and virtues for charity work. Hereby, May I also urge everyone to work together to care for the vulnerable groups in the society with labour or money to contributes strength and love to charity cause. Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People. This can make a better society.
We should promote ”forgiveness, universal love, compassion, gratitude, blessing ” to the public as the codes of conduct for everyone and pursue the concept of “The gratitude and public consciousness shall make the world peaceful and in harmony. ”, inheriting the bright positive energy in Chinese traditional culture values” forgiveness, universal love, compassion, gratitude and blessing” and praising the greatness of parents.
Some countries have homes and everything is good; national development, the economic progress and the people are contented, the society will be harmonious and happy!
We must unwaveringly transmit the righteous beliefs of forgiveness , compassion, universal love, gratitude, blessing to the masses and pursue the ‘people’s understanding of gratitude and the world peace and tranquility. Passing on the positive and traditional energy values of the Chinese tradition: forgiveness, compassion, gratitude, filial piety, giving back, and praising the greatness of parents.
Sian Chay Medical Institution is a social enterprise, managed by the society, and serving the society. In order to thank Ms Sun Sue Lin for attending the concert, Mr. Kenny Lim , Director of Sian Chay Medical Institution, presented her a calligraphy work “慈”by Mr. Chui Choo Sin, 93 year-old calligrapher, on behalf of Sian Chay Medical Institution. When Ms. Sun received the gift, she said that, “It is such a blessing to receive the gift from a senior calligrapher. Thank you!”
During the concert, the famous Taiwanese artiste Mei-ling Lo and other local artistes brought fantastic performances to the audience.
