Happy to Serve Sian Chay , Doing Charity as Virtue ——Sian Chay Charity Dinner


On 24th March 2017, Sian Chay Medical Institution and Se7en Media invited benevolent persons from different industries to participate in the “Sian Chay Charity Dinner” at Hilton Hotel to appreciate their generosity and to encourage greater participation in charity. The dinner was honored to invite Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry, as the Guest of Honour. In addition, Mr. Melvin Yong Yik Chye, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, and Ms. Chan Wei Ling, MP for Fengshan SMC, were invited to attend the event which was supported by Singapore Press Holdings’ “Lianhe Zaobao”, “Lianhe Wanbao” and “Shin Min Daily”, YanSG and Rings TV and other major media.

The dinner was hosted by Se7en Media and sponsored by a number of corporations.

Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry, arrived at the party venue at about 7:15pm and was accompanied by Chairman Toh Soon Huat, Mr. Kelvin Toh, Chairman of the Organising Committee and other Directors. In addition to the fundraising event , there was a charity auction of five artworks donated by local 93-year-old calligrapher Chui Choo Sin. Benevolent attendees actively participated in the auction, bidding for the following 5 artworks:

“Universal Love”, bided by Dr. Chen Li Rong at $5,000;

“Compassion”, bided by Mr. Zhang Han Min, Chairman of Board of Zero Spot Laundry at $5,000;

“Trustworthy”, bided by Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, Director of Teo Heng Trading, at $6,000;

“Sincerity”, bided by Mr. Chen Wen Ping, President of Kowloon Club, at $10,000;

“Sian Chay”, bided by Mr. John Hay, Chairman of Board of Hay Dairies, at $10,000.

During the dinner Dr. Koh Poh Koon presented the commemorative trophies specially for the special sponsors of the event, including Hay Dairies, LHN Group and Koh Kock Leong Enterprise Pte Ltd, as well as 14 special sponsors including Zero Spot, Trans-cab, Star Furniture, Prolead International Pte Ltd, Yang Kee Group, Accrelist Ltd, City Wash, Old Street Bak Kut Teh, Best World International Ltd, R & C Design Solution and Beauty Hope.

The charity performance that night truly reflected the philosophy that “charity has no age limit or form”. The show started with exciting drum performance by 13-year-old young drummer Chen Wei Shan, followed by 16-year-old young pianist Fan Yue Teng’s piano performance, Ms. Chen Mei Xin and her team’s song and dance performances. There were artists such as JJ Lim and other artistes singing. At the end of the show, under the invitation of Mr. Toh Soon Huat, and Mr. Kelvin Toh, Mr. Anthony Aiw, Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Mr. Yong Yik Chye and Ms. Chan Wei Ling went on stage together to sing two songs; “Friends” and “Gratitude”, which won loud applause from the audience. Finally, the charity dinner closed its curtain with warm and grateful singing of “My thankful heart. Grateful to you”.

As always, Chairman Toh Soon Huat, has been serving the public under the 5 core values of Sian Chay, which are Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing, and the commitment of Sian Chay to support to nation building and social harmony . Serving in the society, giving back to the society. We wish everyone working together to care for the vulnerable and needy by contributing money or labour. Mr. Toh often mentions the concept “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours “. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People. In the speech that night, Chairman Toh shared Sian Chay’s 116-years of history, full of difficulties and obstacles and shared that thousands of beneficiaries served by a number of branches of Sian Chay; as well as the efforts made by Sian Chay to improve the services over the years. Guests were touched by his impassioned speech. While in speech of the Guest of Honour, Dr. Koh Poh Koon also expressed his acknowledgement of Mr. Toh’s charity concept and the benevolent action of Sian Chay to provide medical services for the poor and the elderly.

The ” Happy to serve Sian Chay, Doing Charity as a Virtue” Charity Dinner attracted about 500 benevolent guests, and raised a total of $264,722 . Witnessed by Dr. Koh Poh Koon, the mock cheque was presented by Mr. Kelvin Toh, Chairman of the Organising Committee to Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, to encourage the Sian Chay to continue to inherit and spread its charity cause and to encourage more kind people participating in charity to build a harmonious society. It is learned that the donation keeps coming in.

The Charity Dinner came to its successful conclusion at 10:30pm. All guests waved goodbye to each other reluctantly.
