“Sian Chay’s Mother’s Day Gratitude in May” was organised by Sian Chay Medical Institution, supported by the Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West SMC CCCs and sponsored by Neo Holdings, at the open plaza next to Blk 681 Hougang Avenue 8 .
Our Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Grassroots Advisor, officiated at the opening ceremony at 9am. The Special Guests included MPs for Ang Mo Kio GRC including Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of National Development, Dr Intan Azura Binte Mokhtar, Mr Gan Thiam Poh, Mr. David Gerald, Mr. Mr Ang Hin Kee, as well as Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State , Ministry of Transport and Health and Hougang Grassroots Advisor Mr. Lee Hong Chuang BBM and community leaders. Other guests included Mr. Neo Kah Kiat, Chairman of Neo Group, Mr. Tan Aik Hock, President of Lam Ann Association, Ms. Cindy Ong, Managing Director of BSFIT Holdings, and Mr. Yang Haidong, GM of BSFIT. The Directors of Sian Chay attended the ceremony including Chairman Toh Soon Huat, Vice Chairman Dr. Keak Lai Heng, Vice Chairman Dato’ Sri. Ricky Kok and Directors Dato’ Seri Teo Ngiang Heng, Dr. Yap Seng Teck, Mr Anthony Aiw and Ms. Michelle Lu.
The event distributed 217,600 carnation flowers island-wide. Meanwhile, in order to commemorate the 116th anniversary of Sian Chay, 116,000 flowers were sent in various locations (symbolising 116 years of history since its inception in 1901). The event also created a “Singapore Book of Record” . On 12 May 2017, the largest artificial bouquet (measuring 12.5 m × 9.5 m) was composed with 41,249 artificial carnations. On 14 May 2017, the largest mass flower distribution to mothers with 116,000 artificial carnations to celebrate Mother’s Day and commemorate the 116th anniversary of Sian Chay.
Mr Ong Eng Huat, Founder of “Singapore Book of Records”, presented the Singapore Book Of Records certificates to our Chairman Dr Toh Soon Huat witnessed by our Directors and Staff.
Mr. Toh Soon Huat has been promoting the 5 core values of Sian Chay, which are Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing. Meantime, he rallies the staff of Sian Chay to actively provide support to the nation building and social harmony and to adhere to the motto that “ benefiting from the society, paying back to the society.”
Respectful trust, respectful action, respectful attitude, respectful conduct, is the most respectable virtues for charity work. Mr Toh said, “ Working together to care for the vulnerable and needy by contributing money or labour. Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People. This makes it a better society .”
He called on everyone to practise the core values; namely, Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing, and share with the public. He said: “The gratitude and consciousness from the public shall fill this world with peace and harmony.” He wishes that everyone could inherit the positive traditional Chinese cultural values, forgiveness, compassion, gratitude, filial piety, payback, and to praise the great maternal love.
Currently, Sian Chay Medical Institution has 13 branches serving over 1,000 patients daily, and 4 Wellness Centres serving over 10,000 residents each year. By the end 2017, there will be 15 branches island-wide serving 1500 patients daily.
We hope that through each Mother’s Day Gratitude celebration, more people are aware of Sian Chay as a charitable TCM organisation, and understand and embrace its philanthropic spirit . Let more people join Sian Chay to do good things, contribute to the community, benefit the public, and to create social harmony!
