The Seed of Love
——A note on the sharing session by Sian Chay Medical Institution Chairman Toh Soon Huat with New Town Secondary School
On October 18 (Friday) at 8 a.m., Chairman Toh Soon Huat was invited to give a 90 minutes speech on charity to more than 90 New Town Secondary School students. The theme of Chairman Toh’s speech was “A journey For Betterment”. To help the students know Sian Chay and understand Chairman Toh Soon Huat, the school also displayed Mr Toh’s works as well as printed and distributed speeches on Mr Toh.
Through this activity, many students expressed views they are “grateful for life and cherish what they have”; “I want to study harder, change and improve myself.” A female student said: “My relationship with my family is not good, but after watching Mr Toh sharing his story and the Mother’s Day Activities, I was deeply touched. From now on, I will change my thinking and learn to get along with them.” Chairman Toh said, “If you really don’t know how to start the first step, let me teach you,” and gave her three handmade flowers. “You can give these flowers directly to your parents, and say “’I’m sorry, I love you”. Your parents will understand.’” Chairman Toh also said, “Love, sometimes, is very simple. Perhaps with just a small gift, you can express the thousand words in your heart.”
After the speech, the students returned to their classrooms. Under the guidance of the art teachers, beautiful pictures and classic quotations from Toh Soon Huat’s works were hand-painted on a whiteboard. Some students were able to use their imagination and creative ability in a happy atmosphere to draw meaningful and colourful art pieces.
Vice-Prrincipal Mdm Teo Ting Ting said: “Chairman Toh’s sharing not only benefited the students, but also made the teachers present more aware of their heavy responsibilities.”
After the meeting, Chairman Toh said: “I hope that through this sharing session, we have planted good seeds in the hearts of these students and allow more students to experience the positive energy of “gratitude and sharing”. This activity not only opened the understanding of the students, but also cultivated their feelings for home and country. The children showed their deep understanding of the meaning of the session through their own drawing.
