Love D’ Charity, gratitude and good deeds
– Memory of ” Love D’ Charity Dinner 2018″
Sunday, 4th November 2018
4th November at 7.30pm, Sian Chay Medical Institution successfully hosted the ” Love D’ Charity Dinner 2018″ at the SAFRA Toa Payoh.
The Charity Dinner raised a total of $ 483,450 through sponsorship, banquet sales, charity auctions, etc. These donations will be used to defray daily operating expenses. Mr. Heng Chee How, Honourable Adviser of Sian Chay Medical Institution, Senior Minister of State for Defence, Justice of Peace Toh Soon Huat, Executive Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, Advisers Mr. Yap Seng Teck, PBM, Ms. Annie Gan PBM, Ms. Yen Chong, Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Gary Wee, Mr. Dickson Kim, Mr. Andrew Yeo, Mr. Leslie Kang, Ms. Carol Choong, and the Directors of Sian Chay Medical Institution attended the event with about 700 guests.
Mr. Heng Chee How, Senior Minister of State for Defence graced the dinner as Guest of Honour. In his speech, Mr Heng shared: “I am a Member of Parliament for Whampoa constituency and an Adviser to Sian Chay Medical Institution. In the past ten years, Chairman Toh Soon Huat has opened 15 branches, including one at Whampoa constituency. The operating budget for Sian Chay Medical Institution is $6 million per year. The amount of funds needed is increasing gradually. I hope that everyone can do their best to help and contribute generously. The fundraising problem of Sian Chay Medical Institution is not just a one-time solution. It is not easy to maintain and operate these 15 branches and serve the people. And donations for Sian Chay Medical Institution was used prudently, and Chairman Toh is very thrifty and does not misused the funds. He accepted the public scrutiny and used the funds to support the needy patients. Take Whampoa as an example. Since the commencement of service at Sian Chay Whampoa, the number of patient visits has reached 190,000, while the number of dosages of prescription dispensed reached 500,000. Although it is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner charity, there is no limits to good deeds. In a multi -racial country like Singapore, Sian Chay Medical Institution under the leadership of Chairman Toh Soon Huat, provides medicine to benefit the community regardless of race or religion. I also understand the difficulty of doing this. There is no charge for medical treatment, but medicine is costly. So I hope that we can appreciate his actions and appreciate his ability and strength. Not just for only this year, I hope everyone will always support Sian Chay Medical Institution!
Justice of Peace Mr Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, recalled the journey of Sian Chay and was moved and comforted. He said: “Special thanks to Mr. Huang Yixiong, it is the fate that bring him to us. His beloved father, the late Mr Huang Yuhuan was the Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution in 1960s. He did not forget the wish of his late father which was to raise funds for Sian Chay. Now in his 80s, Mr Huang Yixiong was discharged from the hospital recently and he decided to attend the dinner. He said, “I have a wish which is to do our utmost during our lifetime to help Sian Chay raise funds and help the poor patients together”. He has just done that last weekend (28th October ). He and his wife, Mdm. Wei Ju, successfully organised the charity concert “Singalong with You” at a cost of $20,000 to raise over $140,000 for Sian Chay. Mr. Huang Yixiong said that his contribution is insignificant. I am very happy and moved today. He is very grateful and compassionate. Worthy of my respect.
Special thanks to Minister Heng Chee How. One day, I was fortunate enough to invite Minister Heng Chee How to visit the patients at the Geylang Main branch. Minister Heng told me that the Sian Medical Institution gave him a very different feeling, a strong energy. There are two kinds of forces, one is the magnetism of the magnet, the other is the benevolence of compassion. The metallic of the magnet will hurt people in the business, and the benevolence is mercy, compassion, love, kindness, heart of treating people and not hurting people, only saving people, giving and sharing. In addition, I like to sharing a very touching story. The 93-year-old Dato Dr. Tan Hian Tsin donated $2 million to Sian Chay Medical Institution in May this year. He also felt that this donations was too small, so in September this year he again donated to Sian Chay Medical Institution another $2 million. To date, Dato Dr. Tan Hian Tsin donated a total of 4 million to Sian Chay this year. He also said that he will continue to donate to Sian Chay. His wish is to raise$20 million for Sian Chay with his own means.
I would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Tony Foo, the owners of the Qianxi Group which supported Sian Chay since 2016. So far, they have sponsored the banquet for four fundraising dinners. This year they sponsored banquet for two fundraising dinners. Today’s food and beverage worth $50,000 is fully sponsored. He is a good person and kindhearted person. I would also like to thank the three brothers, Fan Renrui, Fan Lizhen and Goh Weixiang. They have served 10 dinner tables to raise $200,000 for Sian Chay. Thank you to you all, and wish everyone good health.
Mr. Yap Seng Teck PBM, an adviser to the Sian Chay Organising Committee, said in his speech: “Since joining Sian Chay in 2014, I have learned a lot. One of the most important points is that we must have a good team spirit in charity. Everyone is united. Looking back on the history, there are good times and hardships and difficulties. There are countless warm moments too. Sian Chay Medical Institution serves the elderly and needy people with the benevolence. It also receives recognition and support from all walks of life. And trust. The huge budget of the charities requires donations from the public, and it is no exception for Sian Chay Medical Institution. Here, we sincerely appreciate your generosity, no matter how much you donate, it is a love for everyone. We will use it prudently so that every donation can bring a happy smile to our fellow ctizens.”
Ms. Yen Chong, Organising Committee Chairman said in her speech: “I am very pleased to participate in the charity evening of Sian Chay again. I am very honored to be the Chairman of Organising Committee. I especially like the concept of trust, action, attitude, and conduct as proposed by Chairman Toh, because I understand that “Kindness action” should be a habit, a behavior of humility, and sacrifice and dedication without expecting any reward. Helping others is a kind of virtue as well as a process of self-cultivation to make the heart more peaceful, stable, contented, and life will be different from usual. I think: Our entrepreneurs should shoulder more social responsibilities. Society is the soil for the growth of enterprises. Entrepreneurs must know how to return to society and help the poor.”

Sian Chay Medical Institution currently has 15 branches serving over 1,200 patient visits daily. Sian Chay has also supported the establishment of 4 wellness centres serving 10,000 residents every year. Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, strongly advocated the five core values of Sian Chay: “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing”, and supporting the nation building and fostering a harmonious society. He often said that ” Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Sucessful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People”. Supporting welfare and actively participating in charitable activities organised by the community organisations, civic groups and community centres is an important way to give back to the society.
