Dear Mr. Heng Chee How, Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Toh Soon Huat, JP, BBM, PVPA Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, greetings to all!
Kindness is a state of mind, and giving is an action. Kindness giving is an attitude, and Sian Chay needs support for its continuity. Hello everyone, I am Yap Seng Teck, a Director of Sian Chay Medical Institution. I am very happy to be here with you tonight.
Looking back at the century long history of Sian Chay with its hardships and challenges, there are countless warm moments and the tears are filled with gratitude for when the help and share their feeling. Charity can be felt when it rendered help to any misfortune that has occurred. Sian Chay Medical Institution serves the elderly and the needy people with the benevolence and kindness, and also receives recognition, support and trust from all walks of life.
Life, old age, illness, and death are the stages in life for people to experience. People may experience pain more or less in their lifetime. As the population ages, the people’s medical burden will increase. Traditional Chinese Medicine has its own advantages in the prevention and health care. If we can further absorb the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and utilise its unique function, we can better benefit public health. As the saying goes: “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People”. Peace and Prosperity for the World. Sian Chay Medical Institution has become the most popular Traditional Chinese Medicine charity for non Chinese patients in Singapore. In recent years, the elderly, especially the pioneer generation, have accounted for 40% of the patients receiving TCM consultations and treatments. In addition, Sian Chay actively participates in community activities such as Mother’s Day, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, distributing more than 20,000 walking aid umbrellas to the elderly and distributing more than 5,000 rice dumplings to the patients and low-income families. We also hired professional hairdressers to provide regular haircuts for the elderly at each branch, and invited personalities to conduct art classes for the constituencies on pro bono basis and other activities, distribute goodie bags and over 10,000 daily essential packs to low-income families. The huge funding of charities requires donations from the public. For Sian Chay Medical Institution, the Organising Committee aims to raise $500,000. Since I joined Sian Chay in 2014, I have learned a lot. One of the most important points is that we must have good team spirit in charity. We stay united and work together. Here, I sincerely ask everyone here to be generous, no matter how much is the donation, it is a love for everyone. For the funds raised, we will use it prudently, so that every donation can bring a happy smile to our fellow citizens. Finally, I sincerely thank Minister Heng Chee How for his support and thanks to the various groups, entrepreneurs, brothers and sisters for their support and generous donations to Sian Chay. A few years later, when people mention Sian Chay, they can’t help but think about how many people have been helped by Sian Chay. At the same time, they also think of you. Our children and grandchildren will be happier because of our efforts today and tomorrow! We hope that the spirit of “Goodwill and Kindness” can be passed down from generation to generation! Gratitude, blessing for everyone, full of happiness, and good health. thank you all!
