I am privileged to be associated with two outstanding philanthropists; namely, Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian-Tsin, my fellow Patron of JCI Singapore and Dato’ Seri Dr. Toh Soon Huat JP, BBM, PVPA, my Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution. Between both of them, they have put in almost one century of community, civic and charity work in Singapore and beyond.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dato’ Seri Dr. Toh Soon Huat JP, BBM, PVPA, on his recent appointment as Justice of Peace in recognition of his excellent community leadership by the President of Singapore, Mdm Halimah Yacob. It is my pleasure to thank the President of Singapore, Mdm Halimah Yacob, also Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution to officiate this event.
Sian Chay Medical Institution should be commended for taking the initiative to launch the $20 million To’ Puan Dr. Tsao Sui Lan Memorial Endowment Fund to support the hardship and welfare cases referred by the Grassroots Advisers at the weekly Meet-the-People Sessions (MPS). These are residents who fall through the social safety net and need the community support and assistance.
My sincere appreciation to Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian Tsin, Patron of Crocodile Foundation, for his generous donation of $2 million to start the Memorial Endowment Fund as well as his kind donation of the private art collection of 100 paintings of his beloved wife, the late To’ Puan Dr. Tsao Sui Lan, to Sian Chay Medical Institution for fundraising efforts to support the Memorial Endowment Fund.
I am honoured to be appointed to chair the 4-member Memorial Endowment Fund Management Committee with fellow JCI Senators. They are JCI Senator Victor Wong, who was past JCI ASPAC Senate President (2010), JCI Senator Dr. Benjie Ng, the Executive Director of Sian Chay Medical Institution, also the current President of ASSEAN and ASSEAN Foundation and JCI Senator Dato’ Sri Sean Wong, current Secretary-General of ASSEAN and ASSEAN Foundation.
The first fundraising project designated for the To’ Puan Dr. Tsao Sui Lan Memorial Endowment Fund will be held in September 2018 with the support of 2018 Miss World Singapore!
I am happy to share that the JCI Singapore movement will have collectively raised about $5 million for Sian Chay Medical Institution since my involvement with Sian Chay in 2010. Indeed our JCI Creed reads, ‘Service To Humanity Is The Best Work Of Life’.
