Message from our Guest of Honour
Mdm Halimah Yacob
Speaker of the Singapore Parliament
Since its founding in 1901 by some dedicated Chinese immigrants from southern China, the Sian Chay Medical Institution has been providing free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation, subsidized medicine and treatments to all members of the community regardless of race, religion or social status. This is as it should be as we live in a multi-racial and multi-religious nation. It is civic organisations such as Sian Chay Medical Institution that ensure our commitment towards building an inclusive society.
The Board of Directors of Sian Chay Medical Institution, under the chairmanship of Mr Toh Soon Huat, BBM, PVPA, has been actively expanding the network of branches to serve more residents, especially the elderly and low income families in the HDB heartlands, since 2008. Sian Chay has plans to expand its current network of branches to another 15 across the island by the end of this year.
This is, indeed, a commendable effort on the part of Sian Chay Medical Iinstitution as it attempts to satisfy its patients whose numbers have been growing exponentially during the last few years. I am also pleased to learn that the members of the pioneer generation are also looked after through a dedicated Pioneer Generation Mmedical Fund specially set up for them.
Needless to say, all these would not have been possible without the generous donations and support that come from public-spirited donors and charitable organisations.
I wish to commend the management and staff of Sian Chay for their commitment and devotion in serving the public through Traditional Chinese Medicine.
