On 29th October, Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance, visited Sian Chay Moulmein-Cairnhill Branch, accompanied by Mr. Melvin Yong Yik Chye, MP of Tanjong Pagar GRC and Grassroots Adviser, Mr. Johnny Heng, Moulmein-Cairnhill CCC Chairman , Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution, and Directors of Sian Chay, Mr Raymond Chua, Mr. Jackson Teo Ngiang Heng, Mr. Yap Seng Teck, Mr. Kenny Lim, Mr. Cui Peng and grassroot leaders and PA staff.

During the visit, Chairman Toh Soon Huat introduced to Minister Heng Swee Keat about the culture, belief, spirit and current operations of Sian Chay, as well as the pre-opening works of Moulmein-Cairnhill Branch.

It was reported that the renovation cost of this branch was fully sponsored by Mr. I.S.P and his family( $300,000) . The renovation was completed in just 52 working days. The cozy and comfortable interior greatly surprised Minister Heng. Meanwhile, Chairman Toh mentioned that Lee Foundation donated another $1 million to PGMF in this July for supporting the waiver of medical fees for another 100,000 PG patients. As reported by the Straits Times, within the TCM sector, Sian Chay is the sole provider that serves the most non-Chinese patients, whose pain were mainly relieved by acupuncture and Chinese tuina therapy.

The Minister said, “The ageing population is prevalent now. And hospital fees are not affordable for many families . Sian Chay’s high-quality and convenient Traditional Chinese Medicine services are very relevant to the seniors, needy families and community. Non-Chinese community receiving Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments here integrate very well with other races, thus promoting racial harmony.”

Upon his departure, Minister Heng commented, “Thank you. You did a great job.”

Chariman Toh said that Sian Chay actively promoted the 5 core values which were “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing”, and the belief that “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People.” This has been the faith that we have adhered to as harmony of each family is the foundation of a prosperous nation. This is also the charity spirit of Sian Chay, “ Trust, Action, Attitude,Conduct .” We believe that Moulmein-Cairnhill branch will hold onto that spirit and contribute more to the residents there.

During the past three and half years (2014-July 2017), Sian Chay has served a total of 730,000 patient visits and dispensed 1.56 million dosages of prescriptions. This is forecasted to go up to 2.5 million patient visits in the next five years (2018-2022), with 4.8 million dosages of  prescriptions.

Currently, Sian Chay has a total of 15 branch serving over 1,000 patient visits daily at the operation cost of $6 million annually. In addition, 4 wellness centres supported by Sian Chay (Sengkang South, Boon Lay, Marsiling and Yio Chu Kang) provide various healthy lifestyle activities to 10,000 residents every year to promote their physical and mental wellness.

With the full operation of its 15 branch, Sian Chay will be able to help more people to relieve from pain and regain their health. Helping an individual means helping the whole family, as each family member’s sickness will surely affect the mood of a family. Our mission is to help the patients to get rid of suffering and obtain happiness to have a healthy, blissful and harmonious family and society.

Concluding the visit, Minister Heng took pictures with Directors and staff.
