Minister Ong Ye Kung’s Visit to Sian Chay Gambas Branch
Minister Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) & Second Minister for Defence, and MP for Sembawang GRC, was informed that Sian Chay Gambas Branch will be operational from September 4, 2017 (Monday). On August 13th, he visited the Gambas Branch, accompanied by Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Sian Chay Chairman , Vice Chairman Mr. Kok Kuan Hwa, Director Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, Dr. Yap Seng Teck , Gambas grassroots leaders and People’s Association staff.
During the visit, Chairman Toh Soon Huat, briefed Minister Ong on the recent development of Sian Chay and the construction and set up of Gambas Branch, which was approved and supported by MOH in April 2016. The construction started on May 15, 2017 and completed by July 23, 2017. The renovation took more than two months, which was really not an easy job.
There are two physicians, one tuina therapist and two TCM assistants at Gambas Branch to serve the residents. Pioneer Generation patients, Silver Ribbon clients and RSVP senior volunteers can all enjoy full waiver of medical charges at Sian Chay clinics. In addition, low-income residents in Gambas area can also enjoy free medical treatment after they obtain referral letters from MPs at Meet-the-People sessions.
The renovation cost ($200,000) of Gambas Branch was fully sponsored by Dato’ Seri Dr. Derek Goh BBM, Executive Chairman & Group CEO of Serial System Ltd as well as Honourable Chairman of Sian Chay. Chairman Toh Soon Huat commented that Lee Foundation has once again donated $1 million in July to support 100,000 patient visits through Pioneer Generation Medical Foundation (PGMF). With the support of PGMF, Sian Chay continued to waive the medical expenses for Pioneer Generation. Mr. Toh also invited Minister Ong to write an appreciation letter to Lee Foundation for its donation of $1 million. With the opening of Gambas Branch, Pioneer Generation living in Gambas can benefit from the fee waiver.
Chairman Toh also thanked Minister and said, “As Lee Foundation also sponsored University education, the appreciation letter could mention both sponsorships . Awesome Lee Foundation!”
Mr. Toh promotes the 5 core values of Sian Chay, which are“Forgiveness, Universal love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing”, and the belief that “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People.” It was for these reasons that Sian Chay received support from benevolent organizations such as Lee Foundation. We hope that Sian Chay will introduce charity cause into school campus and get more students to visit and know about Sian Chay and do good deeds.
The Minister thanked Sian Chay and benevolent individuals for all that they had been done. The residents are very happy to have Sian Chay located in Gambas, and are also looking forward to the traditional Chinese medicine service in Gambas soon. He hopes that Sian Chay can help more residents.
Sian Chay currently has a total of 13 branches, serving more than 1,000 patients daily. At the end of 2017, there will be one more new branches of service, the Moulmein-Cairnhill Branch, bringing the total number of branches to 15, with a daily estimated patient number up to 1,500. The annual operating expenses are estimated at S $ 6 million. In addition, four wellness centers (Sengkang South, Boon Lay, Marsiling and Yio Chu Kang), serve tens of thousands of residents with recreational activities every year to enhance the physical and mental pleasure.
With the official operation of the Gambas Branch, it will help more people to relieve their pain and bring them health and happiness. Helping an individual means helping the whole family, as each family member’s sickness will surely affect the mood of a family. Our mission is to help patients to relieve from pain and create a healthy and happy family to build a harmonious society.
At the end of the visit, Minister Ong took group picture with all for memory!
