On 9th January , Mr. Toh Soon Huat welcomed Ms. Wang Jie and her 13-member delegation from Wang Learning Centre visiting the Sian Chay Geylang Main branch. Wang Learning Centre was founded in 2007. As a Chinese language tuition centre, Wang Learning Centre provides Chinese tuition for children aged 5-16. Ms. Wang, the Founder of this tuition centre, put her greatest goal in helping every student succeed. She committed herself to promoting Chinese culture and engaged cross cultural learning between Chinese and Western cultures to cultivate students with broad horizons.
After watching the Sian Chay video , the teachers were deeply moved by charity TCM organisations in Singapore eg Sian Chay which has been quietly helping low-income, needy patients to get relieved from pain and bringing hope and warmth to them. Doing good deeds without asking for favour are the warmest ones. The spirit of universal love always lights up a lamp for us, illuminating you, me, him or her and the world.
Chairman Toh Soon Huat often mentions that Sian Chay is not only a charity medical institution but also a charity platform, on which benevolent people donate generously and lending their helping hands and sharing their loving hearts. This loving heart and spirit of Sian Chay has been continuing for 117 years till now. Chairman Toh hopes that everyone can make good use of this platform to do good deeds that benefit the society and to promote the spirit of mutual help and compassion and universal love.
During the visit, Chairman Toh introduced the core values, spirit of charity, medical fees and operation hours etc. Ms. Wang was deeply touched. She said, “Traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese language are the important treasures of Chinese civilization. TCM helps us to fight diseases while language spreads civilization. Sian Chay and our learning centre are both propagating the two treasures in Chinese culture. We teach students about why Chinese language is for them to understand the essence held by the language and to learn life truth and spirit of respect. The topics we use in classes are all relevant to real life. Some families send all their children, 3 or even 4, to our centre to study. Quite a lot of students have been with us for as long as 10 years. We sincerely appreciate those benevolent and kids-loving teachers who witnessed the growth of students in Wang Learning Centre.”
Chairman Toh said, “Sian Chay is not only a TCM clinic. It’s also a charity organization, and social enterprise as well. Social enterprises should be operated by the public. Education and Health are both social services needing compassionate service. Healthcare is life-saving, helping people to develop their bodies. Education is cultivation, nurturing future hope for the country. On this point, Wang Learning Centre and Sian Chay Medical Institution shared the same philosophy. I hope that teachers can help to promote the spirit of Sian Chay, to share its charity platform, to spread positive attitude, to encourage donations from students and parents, to cultivate the sense of gratitude from young and to plant seeds of goodwill deep in their hearts. As long as everyone gives a little bit of love, the society can be a more harmonious and beautiful place .”
Sian Chay has been promoting the core values of “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing” and also integrated them into the daily code of conduct for everyone. Sian Chay promotes the belief that “From the society, For the society. To take care of the vulnerable groups, with effort or money. Wishing everyone working together to contribute to charity cause with one’s own efforts.” Because we know that “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation , Bonding with the People. This make a better society .” This is not only the commitment of Sian Chay, but also inherent responsibility and obligation of each Singaporean. A single individual’s power is insignificant while united team delivers great strength. Our nation will be a better one. Once it’s full of energy of love, it will bring sunshine to the whole society.
