At 10 am, both directors, Mr. Chua Swee Wah and Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, begun to distribute goodie bags to 36 patients from Geylang branches who were granted waiver of medical charges. They were from low-income families, financially needy and elderly residents, single seniors, or unemployed single person or couples with a sick family member. They got their medical charges waived through recommendation by physicians at Geylang branch or self applications by themselves. At present, a total of 93 patients in all branches were approved for this scheme in 2017.

In order to express gratitude to Sian Chay, an old lady on wheelchair, who is one of the goodie bag recipients, came to collect the goodie bag from Mr. Teo. Her son, who has partial mobility, was with her. We learnt from her brave and strong attitude towards life. The goodie bag would be of help to her livelihood. We felt appreciative to what we possessed and felt that we show concern for the needy and vulnerable groups.

Through this activity, Sian Chay rendered its care to the patients, and promoted its 5 core cultures, which were Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing. By organizing charity activities, Sian Chay is practicing its social responsibility advocated by Chairman Toh Soon Huat that , “From the Society, For the Society”.
