The “Love from Sian Chay 2017 ” Charity Gala Dinner & Concert hosted by Sian Chay Medical Institution was held at the Singapore Expo on 8th July 2017 at 6.30pm. The Guest of Honour at the Charity Gala was Mdm. Dr. Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament and MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC,

The Special Guests included, Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Trade & Industry and Ministry of Education, and Mayor of South West District, Mr. Wang Jiarong, the Counsellor and Consul General of the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Singapore, and Mr. Yeo Guat Kwang, Assistant Director-General in National Trades Union Congress.

Mdm Halimah, Speaker of Parliament, arrived at 7:00pm and greeted the guests and took group photos with them. The guests greeted her with the warmest applause.

“Love from Sian Chay 2017 ” was hosted by Sian Chay Medical Institution and supported by Unusual Group and MM2. Enterprises and individuals who supported the Charity Gala included Serial System Ltd, Hatten Land Ltd, Chang Cheng Group, MoneyMax Financial Services Ltd & SooKee Jewellery Ltd, TeoHeng Trading Pte Ltd, Trans-Wind Travel Pte Ltd and CityWash Pte Ltd. The Charity Gala has the support of Citizens’ Consultative Committees, Lee Foundation, San Wang Wu Di and Singapore Pools. Supporting media included Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore Eye, Singapore Link and Rings TV.

Six benevolent sponsors and Directors gave their full support commitment with the donation of $1,000,000 each to Sian Chay, and one Director committed to donate $500,000. Dato’ Seri Dr Derek Goh BBM , Executive Chairman and Group CEO of Serial System Ltd donated first $1,000,000 this year. Datuk Wira Eric Tan, Chairman of Hatten Land Ltd, Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Yong Guan PBM, President of SooKee Group, Dato’ Seri Jackson Teo Ngiang Heng PBM, Managing Director of Teo Heng Trading, Dato’ Seri  Ricky Kok BBM, Chairman of Chang Cheng Group and Ms. Michelle Lu, Managing Director of Trans-wind Travel each pledged donation of $1,000,000 this year and Mr. Anthony Aiw, CEO of CityWash pledged his donation of his $500,000 this year.

The following musicians and artistes participated in the dinner concert; Superstar Stefanie Sun, Superstar Vivian Hsu, Taiwanese artiste Cai Xiao-hu, popular artiste Mr. Samuel Tai, famous songwriter Mr. Roy Li, Golden Melody Singer Jay Lim and local band Jack & Rai, as well as Ms. Jamila, Principal of BellyDance Extraordinaire. They performed for love and encouraged hotline donations . They spread universal love and compassion with their voices of love and sent sunshine of sincerity to Sian Chay and to Singapore.

Mr. Kenny Lim, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, shared with all, “Every time I visited Sian Chay, my heart was filled with endless warmth and gratitude, as I saw how Sian Chay helped those patients in need to improve their health and life. All of this comes from you, the warm hearts of donors, the hard work and efforts from volunteers and medical team. That is how Sian Chay can continue its mission of serving the public. The success of the event could not be possible without the hard work and support from our sponsors, partners, donors, directors and colleagues, and I am extremely indebted to all of them in doing such an incredible job in bringing everything together.”

Mr. Toh Soon Huat, in his speech, specially thanked Mdm  Dr. Halimah Yacob for accepting Sian Chay’s invitation to become Patron of Sian Chay.

Reviewing Sian Chay’s development, he mentioned that Sian Chay served about 730,000 patients in the past three and half years (from year 2014 to June of 2017), and prescribed more than 1,560,000 dosages of prescription. In the next 5 years (from 2018 to 2022), the number of patient visits would increase to about 2.5 million with no of prescription to 4.8 million dosages.

He also shared his experience in 2008 while organizing the TV Charity Show,  “Humanity service without Border, Universal love without limits” with several good friends in just 7 days for Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund. That event raised around $10 million.  Later, they worked closely with Sichuan provincial government and built 7 Singa-Sino friendship primary schools and a bridge. Each of these primary schools has an iconic scuplture which symbolised  the friendship between Singapore and China scaling a higher level.

He shared that Sian Chay currently had 13 branches island-wide with daily patient visit of over 1,000. The dedicated service of Sian Chay has gained support from the non-Chinese residents and they became aware about Traditional Chinese Medicine, come to visit Sian Chay for treatment and get to know about Chinese culture which helped to create a harmonious society. Residents from various races developed friendship and communicated during their visits to Sian Chay while sharing facilities.

By the end 2017, another 2 new branch clinics will be opened for service; namely, Moulmein-Cairnhill Branch and Gampas Branch, bringing the total number of clinics to 15 with an estimate of  1,500 patient visits daily requiring an annual operation budget of $6 million.

Currently, Sian Chay is suporting 4 Wellness Centers all over the island, serving more than 10,000 residents annually. In the coming 4 years, Sian Chay will continue its fundraising activities to raise more funds to defray its operation costs.

Mr. Toh also shared with guests the “ Sian Chay Mother’s Day Celebration ” co-organized with Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West SMC CCCs on 14 May 2017. All parents are great. That day, more than 2,000 volunteers distributed more than 210,000 stalks of carnation to the public island-wide, which created a Guinness World Record.

Mr. Toh said, “Charity is about teamwork. Only when all work together can we achieve great charity cause. There are still quite a lot of people who are vulnerable and needy. It’s real truth, goodness and beauty when the well to do group helps the needy ones.”

Chairman Toh specially thanked support and assistance from the government, the public, CCCs, corporate sponsors and governmental agencies including HDB, MOH, PA. He also thanked advisors, partners, sponsors, donors, social individuals, performing artistes, volunteers, directors and all staff for their continuous support. It’s the contribution and devotion that helped Sian Chay to grow and develop.

In Mdm Halimah Yacob’s speech, she commended Sian Chay for its community services providing TCM treatment for the community regardless of social status, race or religion for the past 116 years.

She mentioned that more than 200 patients visited Marsiling Branch every day, which served the most non-Chinese patients among the 13 branches. Mdm Halimah often distributes Sian Chay’s brochures to the residents in her constituency’s house visits and encourages patients to receive TCM treatment at Sian Chay.

Mdm Halimah said, “MOH has granted $3 million fund to encourage the research on chronic illness treatment with TCM, in order to improve the professional standards of TCM.” She also announced that she had accepted invitation of Sian Chay to become its Patron.

A total sum of $10,243,443 was raised that night through sponsorships, table sales, charity auction and hotline donations. (More than 1,500 guests attended dinner that night, with another 1,700 guests came for the concert, bring to 3,200 guests in total.)

At 8pm, Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay and Mr. Kenny Lim, Chairman of Organizing Committee, accompanied Mdm Halimah, the Guest of Honour, on stage to present tokens if appreciation to the corporate sponsors and individuals to thank them for their support. After that, Chairman Toh represented Sian Chay to present the certificate of appointment to Mdm Halimah as Patron of Sian Chay. In appreciation for Mdm Halimah’s gracious presence and support at the Charity Gala, a Chinese calligraphy by famous calligrapher 93 years old Mr. Chui Choo Sin,  was presented to her.

Moreover, the charity auction segment was strongly supported by benevolent persons.

Mr. Fan Ren Ray successfully bided the CHRONO 4 TEMERARIO Limited Edition Automatic Steel 31/60 donated by superstar Jackie Chan at the price of $113,333, which was the highest  recorded price among all items auctioned that night.

Mr. Chu Chee Keong got the pair of inscribed and carved mythical lion seals by Mr. Cai Tinghui, which has inscription of “Lee Kuan Yew Yin” on one seal and “Kwa Geok Choo” on the other. The seals were donated by Dato Seri’ Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng. The bidded price was $106,666. Mr. Chu also got Master Hsing Yun’s one-stroke calligraphy “Buddha” at price of $80,000 which was donated by Mr. Anthony Aiw.

Mr. Tan Aik Hock got the artwork “Galloping Horses” drawn and donated by Chinese artist Mr. Qi Hong at $73,000.

Mr. Vincent Ang got the artwork “One World” by local artist Mr. Lim Tze Peng donated by Mr Melvin. Poh Boon Kher at price of $55,000.

Mr. Ng Cheng Lock got Master Hsing Yun’s one-stroke calligraphy “The Fragrance of Compassion” donated by Fo Guang Shan Singapore Temple at $50,000.

Mr. Hu En Ci got the Hommage a Zao Wou-Ki Limited Edition 33/50 donated by Ms. Jasmine Tay at $44,444.

A total of $612,443 was raised in the auction session.

The concert began at around 11pm.

Ms. Vivian Hsu attractively performed “I Can’t Live the Day Without You”, “Eyes with Smile” and “Tornado”. Mr. Samuel Tan, prince of love songs, sang his famous work “999 Roses”. Roy Li, one of the representative individual of “Singapore Melody”, self-accompanied with his guitar and performed several classical songs, “When I Think of You”, “Love is Like Tidal Wave”, etc. Finally, Pop Icon Ms. Stefanie Sun’s astonishing showing triggered waves of passion on site. Cries of fans and chorus brought the concert to a harmonious and perfect ending.
