Her Excellency President Halimah is a people’s president who has won our respect and admiration.

Thank you, Honourable President Halimah, Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution for her support and encouragement to Sian Chay Medical Institution.

As the Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution, President Halimah has been a good friend of Sian Chay for a long time and has been showing concern for and supporting the state of Sian Chay Medical Institution for several years.

During her term as MP of Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, the President often helped Sian Chay distribute brochures during her visits to the residents, so that more non-Chinese residents could know about traditional Chinese medicine treatment. This not only allows needy patients to go to Sian Chay to consult a physician, but also gives Sian Chay an opportunity to spread the Chinese culture and let non-Chinese residents appreciate the more than 5000-year history of traditional Chinese medicine.

On July 8, 2017, Mdm Halimah, (then Speaker of  Parliament) Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution delivered the keynote speech praising “Sianchay has served the community for 116 years by providing traditional Chinese medicine  treatment to the public regardless of status, race and religion.”

In the TV interview on the program “Move On”, Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah and current Singapore’s president praised Toh Soon Huat as an “outstanding and excellent person”: “he is full of passion and vitality, and has extraordinary energy and compassion.” He strives to practice his commitment to charity and dedication. We just talked about setting up a branch clinic in Marsiling constituency, and he set up the branch clinic in one year. He’s a very enthusiastic, very committed and dedicated person, and it’s hard to find someone with that quality now.
I hope he can continue to contribute to Sian Chay and do his best for this community.” She added, “He not only raises funds. He will personally visit the branch clinic to ensure the smooth progress of the renovation project. Toh Soon Huat is definitely a responsible leader with compassion and dedication. “

On May 21, 2017, President Halimah was the guest of honour of the launch of “To’ Puan Dr Tsao Sui Lan Memorial Endowment Fund” organised by Sian Chay Medical Institution. Dato Dr. Tan Hian-Tsin, generously donated S$2 million at the launch gala dinner of “To’ Puan Dr. Tsao Sui Lan Memorial Endowment Fund”. H.E. President Halimah and Patron of Sian Chay Medical Institution inaugurated the launch of the fund.
The target of the fund is to raise S$20 million, and currently the donation stands at about $9 million. Dr. Tan is the first and only one to receive a special award for his contribution to Sian Chay. At the same time, Sian Chay Medical Institution also presented the “World Peace Special Contribution Award” to Ms. Julia Morley, Founder of Miss World Pageant.

On July 28, 2018, the opening ceremony of the “Redefining the Archaic: The Art of Lim Tze Peng” was successfully held. President Halimah came to personally support the exhibition, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Poh served as chair of the organising committee. A total of $500,000 was raised from the event (Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Chiang donated $200,000, and Dato’ and Mrs. Robert Goh donated $50,000). Of these, $250,000 would be donated to the President’s Challenge, while the other half would be donated to Sian Chay Medical Institution.

On April 24, 2018, Chairman of Sian Chay Medical Institution Toh Soon Huat was appointed the Justice of the Peace by President Halimah at Istana. This is the Singapore government’s acknowledgement of the outstanding contributions made by Chairman Toh Soon Huat in the fields of charity, profession, public and society.
