Racial Harmony, Singing with Love
Love & Care Charity Concert successfully raised $168,500.
To promote racial harmony and mutual understanding among races and for a better Singapore, Sian Chay Love & Care Charity Concert was organized by Sian Chay Medical Institution and Volta Student Group at Downtown East D’ Marquee on 26th November 2017 at 7.30pm. The performing groups comprise students from Nanyang Girls’ School, Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Girls’ High School and Raffles Institution. Sian Chay Medical Institution is the supporting and beneficiary organization. Mr. Henry Kwek HIan Chuan, MP of Nee Soon GRC was present as Guest of Honour. The concert was not for fund-raising purpose alone, but also to let more Singaporeans know about Sian Chay and have more young people get involved with this cause to help more needy residents and deliver care and love of the community to them.
It was reported that around 1,000 guests attended the concert that night, including generous supporters, donors , school principals, students and the public .
Distribution the seeds of love
Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, shared in his speech that “Arts originated from culture, taste and the perception of life, brightness and beauty.”
For a long run, Sian Chay has been actively promoting the development of charity sector in Singapore and sowing the seeds of love. The core values of “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing” deeply implanted in the mind of every Sian Chay people. Sian Chay supports the nation building and fosters social harmony , actively promotes the belief of “Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People.” Sian Chay strongly supports charity causes by active participation in the activities organized by community organisations , civic groups and community centres to giving back to the society. Through every act of benevolence , Sian Chay adheres to its dream of love.
Chairman of Volta Student Group, Martin Ong said that, “Thanks for the selfless support and guidance of Chairman Toh and his Management team, we get to where we are now step by step. We have learned about the meaning of charity from them as well as the knowledge of fund raising activities.”
Wonderful performances won appreciation
Every performance won applause or even cheers from the audience, from exciting rock band, well known Chinese Wushu, nice guitar chorus, youthful and dynamic modern dance, girls hip-hop, perfect violin and cello chord, to A Cappella, etc. The performances highly exceeded audience’s expectation. Mr Henry Kwek also praised the students’ performances.
They promoted universal love and compassion with their voices and body language of love and brought brightness of love to Sian Chay and to Singapore.
Century-long Sian Chay benefiting the public
Sian Chay has a century long history. Mr. Toh Soon Huat served as the Chairman since 2008. This 100-year-old charity organization glowed with new vitality under the joint efforts from the public and the Board of Directors as well as the staff. As a charitable organisation, Sian Chay has developed itself within a few years into a network of 15 branches serving over 1,000 patient visits per day. The 4 wellness centres supported by Sian Chay have over 10,000 residents participating in various mental and physical wellness programmes. Sian Chay has also gained wide recognition and compliments by patients and benevolent personalities in the community.
In the past three and the half years (2014 to June, 2017), Sian Chay has served 730,000 patient visits and dispensed 1.56 million dosages of prescriptions.
In the next five years (2018-2022), it is estimated that the number of patient visits will be 2.5 million and the number of dosages of prescription is estimated to reach 4.8 million, which will benefit a great number of patients.
Donation of love benefiting the others
Mr. Toh Soon Huat shared that the token donation of $10 can benefit one patient visit from low-income family to have free consultation and medication at Sian Chay. Helping one patient represents helping a whole family to get rid of pain and fosters a blissful family.
We hope to share Sian Chay’s charity TCM platform with more people through this event, so that more people are aware of Sian Chay, to know Sian Chay, and to improve Sian Chay further. Moving forward with Sian Chay with more good deeds and more contributions to the society, to benefit the public and foster social harmony.
