Can ever repay the warm sunshine of spring?” This poem is the simplest, but the deepest description of maternal love.

The Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Grassroots Advisor, officiated at the launching ceremony on 14 May 2017 at 9am. The Special guests included Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade & Industry and Ministry of National Development, Dr. Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health, Ang Mo Kio GRC MPs, Dr Intan Azura Binte Mokhtar, Mr Gan Thiam Poh, Mr. David Gerald, Mr. Mr Ang Hin Kee, and Hougang Grassroots Advisor Mr. Lee Hong Chuang BBM and community leaders. Other guests included Mr. Neo Kah Kiat, Chairman of Neo Group, Mr. Tan Aik Hock, President of Lam Ann Association, Ms. Cindy Ong, Managing Director of BSFIT Holdings, and Mr. Yang Haidong, GM of BSFIT. The Directors of Sian Chay attended the ceremony including Chairman Toh Soon Huat, Vice Chairman Dr. Keak Lai Heng, Vice Chairman Dato’ Sri. Ricky Kok and Directors Dato’ Seri Teo Ngiang Heng, Dr. Yap Seng Teck, Mr Anthony Aiw and Ms. Michelle Lu.

After the launch, Prime Minister Lee and the community leaders visited the wet markets and coffeeshops to distribute flowers to ladies there. The activity attracted passers-by to gather around. Everyone received carnations from him delightfully. Mdm Liew Pau Di, 65-year-old and a mother-in-law, said, “I will keep the flowers in the living room cabinet for remembrance because this is the first time that I received flowers.” Another lucky lady who received flower from Prime Minister Lee was Mdm Toh Soo Zen (43 years old). She said: “In addition to the flower from Prime Minister, my two sons each gave me one more. I feel very happy.”

Lim Hui Siang (70 years old), who has 10 children and 6 grandchildren, and her maid both received a carnation each. She said, “I will insert this special flower in the vase to admire. My maid has a 10-year-old child in her hometown. It’s meaningful that she can also celebrate Mother ‘s Day even she’s not at home.”

PM Lee said: “Thanks to Sian Chay for organizing this carnation distribution activity. For over 100 years, Sian Chay has been providing free TCM consultation and treatment to the community regardless of race, religion or nationality.”

“Look how happy they are!”, said Mr. Neo Kah Kiat, Chairman of Neo Group, “I think this event is very meaningful and can bring about the cohesion of the family.” Mr Neo also hopes that Sian Chay will hold such big event again next year and he will continue to support it.

Mr Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, mentioned that the idea of organizing this Mother’s Day event was mainly to celebrate the great maternal love and to promote filial piety, respect and tribute to mothers, hoping to take the opportunity to encourage more people to spread love and let them express their love to mothers by actions to continue the positive energy to the society. A flower is the expression of gratitude to mother, making mothers happy and bringing joy to the whole family.

“Sian Chay’s Mother’s Day Thanksgiving Event in Warm May” was co-organized by Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West CCC, Sian Chay Medical Institution, and sponsored by Neo Holdings. The free artificial pink carnations gifted to ladies paid tribute to women, while helping people to express gratitude to their mothers.

This year, Sian Chay distributed 217,600 pink carnations on Mother’s Day. In addition to the 7,000 flowers given to patients at the 13 branches of Sian Chay , the remaining 210,000 carnations were distributed to the public by more than 2,000 volunteers at about 100 locations island-wide.

PM Lee also posted on his Facebook in the evening at 7.23pm, wishing all mothers and mothers-to-be a “Happy Mother’s Day.” At the same time, he posted: “Joined fellow Ang Mo Kio Town GRC MPs and volunteers to distribute 10,000 pink carnations to Sengkang South’s mothers and residents this morning! Glad to see many mums and their families out and about enjoying their Sunday. ”

Mr. Toh Soon Huat has been promoting the 5 core values of Sian Chay, which are Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing. Meantime, he rallies the staff of Sian Chay to actively provide support to the nation building and social harmony and to adhere to the motto that “ benefiting from the society, paying back to the society.”

Respectful trust, respectful action, respectful attitude, respectful conduct are the most respectable virtues for charity work. Mr Toh said, “ Working together to care for the vulnerable and needy by contributing money or labour. Nation Progresses, Family Prospers. Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People. It will make a better society.”

Currently, Sian Chay Medical Institution has 13 branches, serving more than 1,000 patients daily, and 4 Wellness Centers, serving 10,000 residents each year. By end 2017, there will be 15 branches island-wide serving 1,500 patients daily.

Mothers give children the warmest cuddle while father give the strongest support to hold the sky. Parents’ hearts are alike. Every father or mother is the world’s greatest person.
