Sian Chay Flag Day: Your participation has it more meaningful.

Saturday, 8th June 2019

Living is about cultivation, and life is a responsibility. Existence and non-existence, valuable or valueless, meaningful and meaningless, lies in one’s own choice, mind, cultivation, wisdom, strength and truthful kindness. ———— Toh Soon Huat Chairman JP BBM PVPA

Sian Chay Medical Institution, with a history of 100 years, has always uphold the traditional virtues of benevolence, helping the poor and providing medical services to the public regardless of social status, race and religion. At present, there are 15 branches and 4 supported wellness centres islandwide, serving over 1,200 patient visits daily, bringing convenience and love to the community.

However, as Sian Chay expands further, the pressure on Sian Chay is also increasing, especially the financial pressure. Sian Chay’s development depends on the donations of benevolent people, as well as the funds raised through the charity activities and the support of volunteers.

Every year, Sian Chay Medical Institution organises the Flag Day event. The donation tins and pledge cards are used to collect donations during this fundraising event. Sian Chay Flag Day 2019 was held on 8th of June. Vice Chairmen of Sian Chay, Dr Simon Keak, Dato’ Seri Dr. Derek Goh, Organizing Committee Chairman Jackson Teo, as well as 100 volunteers were present at the event launch.

The participants included the Qing Jian Realty staff, new immigrants, students, patients, etc. They carried donation tins to public places for fundraising. Each donor will receive a love heart sticker.

Mr. Jackson Teo said, “The partner companies, Eddi, Jacky, Jean saw that I have been quietly serving in Sian Chay. In the past 10 years, Sian Chay transformed from a century-old clinic with a few dozen patients into a medical institution with 15 branches, serving over 1,200 patients a day. The annual operation expenses is about $6 million. They were touched to see that I spared no efforts to devote myself in this cause. Then, Jean Teo asked if Teo Heng could be part of the Sian Chay Medical Institution. I am certainly pleased that they have such compassion and love and I would like the staff of Teo Heng to do this very meaningful good thing. Not just this time, it is sure to carry on! Teo Heng KTV Studio also donated $100,000 to support the Sian Chay TV Charity Show on 7th July.

Regardless of the amount, anybody can participate in charity. At Sian Chay, every $10 can help a low-income elderly to enjoy free consultation and medication. This is a very meaningful cause.”

Dr. Benjie Ng, Executive Director of Sian Chay Medical Institution, said: “Sian Chay has been organizing Flag Day annually since 2015. Flag Day is a form of face-to-face fundraising activities. Over the years, the flag day has been developed into a flagship volunteer project of Sian Chay Medical Institution. The four-year Flag Day activities (2015-2018) have raised over 1 million for Sian Chay Medical Institution.

The second phase of the event is the pledgecard collection by 100 TCM personnel at the 15 branches from 8th to 15th June.

Sian Chay not only provides medical services as a neighbourhood medical institution relieving the patient’s sufferings, but also a ‘love arena” that conveys warmth and positive energy. The patients not only have their physical condition improved, but also get infected by the happiness at Sian Chay. This happiness is brought back to their homes and makes their families more harmonious.”

“Trust, action, attitude, conduct form the integrity and virtues for charity work.” It is the code of conduct that Mr. Toh Soon Huat has always advocated and followed, and it has also inspired more people to contribute to charity, as well as the guideline of Sian Chay’s fundraising activities.

Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, has been promoting the core values of “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing ”. He said that, “From society, For society. We should take care of the disadvantaged groups, with efforts or money. Wishing everyone working together to contribute to charity cause within one’s own means. Nation Progresses, Family Prospers; Family Harmony, Successful Endeavours. Forward with the Nation, Bonding with the People. This can make a better society .” This is not only the commitment of Sian Chay, but also inherent responsibility and obligation of each Singaporean. Let’s move forward and work together for a better Singapore.

The Tote Board also supports the Sian Chay Flag Day this year.
