Sian Chay Winning Community Spirit Awards

On August 9, Sian Chay was awarded PA Community Spirit Merit Award by the People’s Association. The PA Community Spirit Awards were introduced to commend and encourage private enterprises and community organisations to participate in community service and contribute to the promotion of social harmony.

At the awards ceremony, Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Vice Chairman of the People’s Association, mentioned in his speech that, with Singapore’s continuous development and more immigrants from diversified backgrounds, private enterprises and community organisations are involved in community service and promoted national integration. He said, “When the partners and the quality of PA continue to grow, we are steadily making a small step towards the establishment of a more united and compact Singapore. However, our work is far from the finishing line. We cannot be arrogant or be satisfied with our current accomplishment.”

It is the first time for Sian Chay to win this award. Sian Chay currently operates a total of 13 branches, serving more than 1,000 patients daily. By end 2017, there will be two new branches opening for service, namely, Moulmein-Cairnhill and Gambas Branches, bringing the total number of branches to 15 with a daily patient visits of up to 1,500. The annual operating expenses are estimated at S $ 6 million. Over the past three and half years (from 2014 to June 2017), Sian Chay has served a total of 730,000 patient visits and prescribed 1.56 million dosages of prescription. In the next five years (2018 to 2022), the number of patient visits is estimated at 2.5 million patients with estimated dosages of prescription at 4.8 million. Meanwhile, four wellness centres supported by Sian Chay (Sengkang South, Boon Lay, Marsiling and Yio Chu Kang) provide recreational activities for 10,000 residents each year to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing.

Sian Chay is an approved Institution of a Public Charcter (IPC). All charitable donations are entitled for tax rebates, which brings great confidence and encouragement to donators. The fund-raising activities organized by Sian Chay, such as charity exhibitions, shows and performances, charity golf games & dinners, charity dinner and charity fund-raising gala dinner, have received widespread support from all kinds of benevolent people.

Sian Chay provides a full range of services following the same philosophy, including free consultation, subsidy medication and tuina therapy, to deliver care and attention for the elderly to enjoy healthy and blissful lives in their golden age.

Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, inherited from Sian Chay’s pioneering spirit and developed its 5 core values. He said, “Forgiveness, Universal Love, Compassion, Gratitude and Blessing”, are the codes of conduct for everyone in Sian Chay.” Sian Chay should strive for the well-being for Singaporeans, to promote the concept of “From the society, For the society” and to take care of the vulnerable groups, with effort or money.
