Six sponsors each committed $1 million donation to Sian Chay Medical Institution

This is the mega donation raised from this year’s “Love of Sian Chay” Charity Gala Dinner. Six benevolent sponsors and directors will support the charity TCM services of Sian Chay according to their respective funding plans. They will make their respective donations of $1 million to Sian Chay in different tranches.

To support the charity TCM services of Sian Chay to the community, especially the elderly and the vulnerable group , six benevolent patrons and directors of Sian Chay each pledged to donate $1 million to Sian Chay.

“This is our additional funds raised by this year’s “Love of Sian Chay” Charity Gala Dinner,” said Mr. Toh Soon Huat, Chairman of Sian Chay, “They know the difficulties facing Sian Chay in delivering the TCM services; and hope to support Sian Chay in helping the public through their donations.”

He said: “Mr. Derek Goh, Honourable Chairman, is the first person to pledge $1 million donation to Sian Chay on his own initiative, which pleasantly surprised us. Other benevolent patrons and directors then made similar pledges. We were deeply moved by our colleagues.”

Mr. Toh Soon Huat emphasized that Sian Chay would not achieve such rapid branch network expansion in the past few years and provide TCM services to community; especially, for elderly patients with limited mobility, without support from the government, the community, sponsors and charity grantmakers.

He said: “Under current economy with a pessimistic economic outlook, charity fund-raising is particularly difficult. The donations from these benevolent patrons and directors undoubtedly brought great encouragement to our staff and volunteers; and also warm the low-income patients.”

Six benevolent sponsors and directors will each donate $1 million to Sian Chay in different tranches this year according to their respective timelines.

The donors are, Mr. Tan Eng Huat, Chairman of Hatten Group, Mr. Lim Yong Guan, Chairman of SK Jewellery, Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng, MD of Teo Heng Trading Pte Ltd, Mr. Derek Goh, Executive Chairman and Group CEO of Serial System Ltd, Mr. Ricky Kok, Chairman of Chang Cheng Group, and Ms. Michelle Lu Yanping, Marketing Director of Trans-wind Travel Pte Ltd.

Mr. Tan Eng Huat is also the Honourable Chairman of Sian Chay. Last year, his Hatten Group sponsored the renovation funds for the orthopedics centre located at 692 Geylang. Mr. Tan pledged to donate $500,000 at the Charity Gala, and another $500,000 before end of the year. Other two Honourable Chairmen, Mr. Derek Goh and Mr. Lim Yong Guan both committed to donate $100,000 to the event.

Donations will cover medical cost for patients from 13 branches.

Vice Chairman Mr. Ricky Kok, Treasurer Mr. Teo Ngiang Heng and Director Ms. Lu Yanping, each donated $100,000 to the event. Mr. Anthony Aiw, Director of Sian Chay, Managing Director of City Wash, pledged to donate $500,000. He also donated $50,000 for the event itself.

Regarding the commitment of supporting Sian Chay, Mr. Lim Yong Guan said that Sian Chay is helping more than 1000 patients daily at its 13 branch clinics, which not only give relief from pain to patients, but also helps them to get remove the heavy burden of medical cost. He said, “By helping Sian Chay, I am indirectly help many families to relieve themselves from the mental pressure in taking care of the elderly and the sick, so that they can focus on their work and live a blissful and more harmonious family life.”

The strong supporters of Sian Chay also includes the following; Lee Foundation, which donated $1 million each in 2014 and 2016; Superstars Jacky Chan, Wakin Chau, and Jonathan Lee, who raised $1.05 million on the “Love from the STARS ”Charity Dinner and Concert in May 2015; and Mr. Lim Oon Cheng and his family, who donated $1 million under the “Lim’s Family” in June 2016.
